It’s amazing how many different types of projects I have done since starting my company last year. I have created prototypes, Pinocchio heads, 3D printed phone cases, 2D site maps, 3D printed icebergs and many more. But this one opened up my eyes to how movie and TV show props get made.
Dianne, the art director for the new TV show Extinct, hired us to create 3D CAD files of many of the TV show props. We created pieces like doors, hallway bulkheads, door trims and a hologram table.
Here are a few samples. They provided the picture and we created the CAD file.
Want to know how they actually make these movie props? They take a big block of foam, and a laser cutter cuts the shape of the CAD file out of the foam automatically. How cool is that!
Here is a video showing a laser cutting foam to get an idea.
I can’t wait to see our CAD files on TV in the near future.
